Delicious and Balanced Meals, Freshly Prepared Daily

Did you know that you have to try a new food up to 15 times to find out whether you like it or not?

Did you know that you have to try a new food up to 15 times to find out whether you like it or not?

At Little Star Day School, we believe that every child should have a healthy relationship with food as soon as they begin eating solid foods. Our goal is for children to understand that healthy food is easy, delicious, and nutritious for their bodies.

We want them to find mealtimes to be joyful and educational experiences where they can taste and learn about different foods. Our school has followed the “Lighter Living” concept for many years. This concept calls for meals to be balanced and age appropriate. The children have the opportunity to get to know many different foods. The variety of foods on offer makes the children curious and encourages them to try new foods.

Meals are balanced and healthy.

Carefully Created Menu

Food and nutrition play an important role during a child’s growth and development. That’s why we collaborated with nutrition experts in 2010 to create our own menus, based on the latest nutritional science understandings for children. We regularly adjust our menu to ensure that they are up to date – and not just in terms of taste.

Fresh & Natural Ingredients

Our menus are balanced and prepared from fresh products. We refrain from adding sugar and flavor enhancers. Wherever possible, we use unprocessed, organic products from the region. Fruits and vegetables are always part of a meal.

Our ingredients are fresh, organic and local.
Our caregivers ensure that all children stay hydrated.
Little Star supports mothers' feeding choices.
Our menu is based on our own research-based nutritional program.

Hydration

Drinking enough and maintaining good hydration is very important. Our caregivers ensure that all children are well hydrated and drink enough. We provide each child with their own drinking vessel; depending on age, either with a pacifier bottle, a sippy cup or a drinking bottle. The drinking bottles are accessible to children at all times. Our caregivers set a good example and carry their drinking bottles with them in the group.

As drinks, we offer children a selection of water and cold or lukewarm tea.

Infant Meals

Infants have their own “menu”. Our Nappy Curriculum© provides for children to have an individualized diet until their 1st birthday. For children who are breastfed or bottle-fed, we offer our Little Star Bottle Bridge©. Our trained professionals are happy to advise mothers who are breastfeeding or bottle feeding their child. Learn more about our Bottle Bridge©.

Once they begin eating solid food, we discuss this with the parents and prepare the meals according to the parents’ instructions. Here, too, our experts are on hand to give parents advice and support.

Menu & Dietary Information

The daily menu is displayed on the parent board in all schools. It can also be found on the Daily Report. If you have special dietary requirements such as gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian or vegan, please contact our team and our cooks. They will be happy to explain how we can implement your specifications for the benefit of the child.

Our schools are regularly controlled by our internal quality management and the cantonal authority. We are proud that we receive the highest rating in terms of hygiene and quality in food processing. Convince yourself! You will find the confirmation on the parents board.
