In the final years before starting school, your child experiences a fascinating developmental phase. They discover letters and numbers, ask endless questions and want to understand the world. Our international pre-school in Zurich & Zug harnesses this natural curiosity and creates a space where your child joyfully acquires all the competencies they need for a confident start to school life.
With our proven Early Years Curriculum©, which we have been continuously developing for over 20 years as pioneers of bilingual childcare, we combine learning through play and targeted development into a harmonious whole. In a secure atmosphere, our bilingual educators accompany your child on their journey towards school readiness. We place particular emphasis on balanced development: alongside precursor skills in reading, writing and mathematics, we promote social competencies, independence and the joy of lifelong learning – a solid foundation for your child's entire educational journey.
Our scientifically-based Early Years Curriculum© forms the foundation of our pre-school concept. It is specifically designed to optimally prepare children for starting school during this crucial developmental phase – without losing the playful character of learning.
The educational priorities of our pre-school:
Together we explore rhythms, sing in groups, get to know instruments and create beautiful artworks thanks to increasing hand-eye coordination.
Learning a healthy, active lifestyle begins in the pre-school years. Large motor activities combined with fine muscle strength are both necessary to build fine motor skills and a healthy body. They develop gross motor skills for sport and dance and fine motor skills for writing.
The pre-school years are crucial for language, literacy and the love of reading. Along with promoting verbal communication in German and English, reading and writing develop through creative writing activities and a group room with labelled objects that expand their vocabulary in both languages.
With the help of modern media, other places can be visited during learning. For example, we can visit an ocean through underwater webcams and explore abstract geometric patterns in artworks.
Children build confidence and self-esteem by choosing play partners, forming close bonds and taking care of their personal needs all by themselves.
The development of thinking skills is a prerequisite for pre-school children to find innovative solutions and remain persistent when solving difficult problems. Our Early Years Curriculum EYC© provides for many different topics to be taught in various styles. This way we can be sure that every child makes progress naturally and without frustration.
Are also important parts of our Early Years Curriculum EYC®. The individual programme for each child is adapted to their progress, needs and age, so that every child develops optimally.
At our pre-school in Zurich & Zug, children experience a balanced mix of targeted learning sessions, free play and movement. A rhythmical daily routine gives them security and helps optimally promote their growing concentration abilities. Here's how a typical day unfolds at our pre-school:
"We'd like to thank every single member of your team who looked after our son with such warmth and care. We dropped him off with you each day feeling completely at ease, and that peace of mind is absolutely priceless! Thank you for everything!"
"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for five wonderful years of care for both our children. It wasn't just childcare - it was affection, kindness, security and love. That meant the world to us. We're going to miss you all terribly. We are big fans of Little Star Day School."
"It was an absolute pleasure for our family to bring our daughter and son to Little Star, and they had the most wonderful time there. When our daughter first arrived at Little Star, she was far too shy to speak to anyone. By the time she left, she was chatting away confidently with teachers in both fluent English and German. Our son started when he was just a 10-month-old baby, and when he left at age 4, he'd grown into a bright, confident little boy - completely ready for school. Many thanks for all your brilliant work!"

Our pre-school is designed for children aged 4 to 6 years. The ideal starting point is approximately 1-2 years before planned school entry. This way your child can benefit optimally from the structured pre-school programme and develop all the important precursor skills for a successful start to school.
Whilst our kindergarten covers a broader age range (3-6 years), pre-school is specifically orientated towards the final 1-2 years before starting school. In pre-school, there is a stronger focus on targeted development of precursor skills for reading, writing and arithmetic. The educational concept is more intensively orientated towards school preparation, whilst still maintaining the playful, child-appropriate approach.
We work according to the immersion principle "One Person – One Language", where each educator consistently communicates in their native language (German or English) with the children. At pre-school age, children have a particular sensitivity to languages and can acquire both languages in parallel and almost effortlessly. Learning materials and activities are offered in both languages.
Our pre-school systematically promotes all competencies that are important for a successful start to school: phonological awareness as a foundation for reading and writing, basic mathematical understanding (numbers, quantities, shapes), concentration ability, perseverance and self-organisation. Social competencies such as cooperation skills, understanding of rules and independence are equally important to us. Through regular developmental observations, we ensure that every child receives individual support.
Our pre-school is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:30pm. You can choose between full-day care or half-day care in the morning or afternoon. You can arrange the number of weekdays (2-5) flexibly. During school holidays, we offer Holiday Camps, so continuous care is guaranteed.
A close educational partnership with you as parents is particularly important to us during pre-school years. We offer regular development discussions where we transparently document your child's progress and plan next steps together. Through parents' evenings on school-preparatory topics, our digital documentation platform and observation opportunities, you gain deep insight into pre-school work and can actively help shape the transition to school.
