Since 1 August 2026, the cantonal flat rate has complemented municipal childcare support. It is independent of income and assets, provided the eligibility requirements are met.
Families living in the city of Zug may also qualify for income-based childcare vouchers. What you pay depends on the nursery fee, your child’s age, the amount of care and the approved contributions. Both forms of support require an application.
The canton pays a fixed amount per day of care, based on 33% of average childcare fees in Zug, rather than 33% of your own nursery’s fee. Requirements include the child living in the canton of Zug and all legal guardians working or undertaking state-regulated education.
The city of Zug provides additional support to eligible families according to their financial circumstances. The minimum parental contribution is CHF 10 per child per day. This relates to the recognised standard fee; parents pay any costs above that amount themselves.
The cantonal flat rate and the city of Zug’s childcare vouchers can both contribute towards childcare costs. They follow different rules: the canton pays a fixed daily amount, while the city calculates its contribution based on financial circumstances.
This does not produce a single savings percentage for every family. Your actual nursery fee and the contributions approved for your family determine the amount you pay.

In the city of Zug, you can apply for both contributions together through Civo. Submit a complete application by the month before you want support to begin. Entitlement starts no earlier than the following month; previous months cannot be funded retrospectively.
Approval lasts for a maximum of twelve months, usually August to July. A new application is then required. Report changes to your childcare or family circumstances through Civo.

The child must live in the canton of Zug and attend a licensed nursery or registered childminder. All legal guardians must work or undertake state-regulated education, and a complete application is required.
The city of Zug’s childcare voucher depends on relevant income and the amount of care. The lower income threshold is CHF 40,000 and the upper threshold is CHF 170,000 per year; no vouchers are granted above the upper limit. The minimum parental contribution is CHF 10 per child per day, based on a recognised standard fee of CHF 160. Parents pay any nursery fees above this standard amount themselves. Special supplements apply for infants. The cantonal flat rate is taken into account to prevent funding above the recognised standard fee. Other requirements include living in the city of Zug, at least 20% childcare, a recognised nursery and taxable assets below CHF 500,000. Relevant income is not the same as gross salary: the city calculates it from the family’s tax circumstances.
Your own contribution is your actual nursery fee minus the approved support. The cantonal flat rate is a fixed daily amount. Any additional city of Zug voucher depends on factors including income, assets and the amount of care. The city’s calculation takes account of the cantonal contribution, the minimum parental contribution and the recognised standard fee. Nursery fees above that standard amount create additional costs for parents. There is therefore no single total savings rate or remaining-cost percentage that applies to every family.
These examples explain support for families living in the city of Zug. They are not price calculations. Your own contribution depends on your agreed nursery fee and the approved support.
Relevant income of up to CHF 40,000 falls into the lowest income band. If the requirements are met, the cantonal contribution and city voucher are considered together. The minimum parental contribution is CHF 10 per day, with any fees above the recognised standard amount payable in addition.
Between CHF 40,000 and CHF 170,000 in relevant annual income, the calculated voucher value falls as income rises. The income-independent cantonal contribution may also apply. The amount the family pays is calculated individually.
Relevant income above CHF 170,000 rules out city vouchers. Eligible families may still receive the cantonal flat rate: CHF 47.15 or CHF 52.60 per nursery day depending on the child’s age in the 2026/27 period. The contribution is paid to parents.

In the city of Zug, you can apply for the cantonal flat rate and city childcare vouchers together through Civo. Select the contributions for which you meet the requirements.
Applicants need ZUGLOGIN and registration with eZug to use Civo. You can obtain a new ZUGLOGIN by post or at a registration office. Allow enough time to set this up before submitting your application.
The cantonal flat rate requires a licensed nursery; city vouchers additionally require recognition by the city of Zug. Little Star Day School Zug is on the city’s list. After the contract is signed, we provide the childcare documents and confirm the place through Civo.
Enter your childcare and personal details and upload the required evidence. For a joint application, the second applicant confirms their details; the nursery must also confirm the care. Then submit the complete application using the submission button, no later than the month before you want funding to start.
After assessment, the decision and approved amounts are available in Civo. Contributions are paid monthly to parents, who continue paying the nursery’s invoice as usual. Approval lasts up to twelve months, usually August to July. A new application is needed for the next period.

This setting links the city centre with the quieter residential neighbourhoods of Baar and makes the nursery easy to reach from across the catchment area.
Just a few minutes away – from the centre of Zug, from Baar or via motorway exit 3 towards Baar. Plenty of parking is available for our parents right on site.
By bus: route 3 to Kistenfabrik, then about a 4-minute walk.
By train: the S1 or S2 to Baar Lindenpark – from there it is only about a 3-minute walk.
