Until now, families in the canton of Zug have largely borne the cost of a nursery place themselves. With the canton's revised childcare ordinance and the City of Zug's updated voucher scheme, that is changing fundamentally: from 1 August 2026, two public funding instruments work in tandem, in some cases cutting the effective cost of childcare in Zug considerably. The canton now contributes towards every day of childcare regardless of income, while the city adds a means-tested voucher on top. What this means in practice depends on your family's circumstances – but practically every working family resident in the canton stands to benefit. So what exactly lies behind these two terms?
A fixed, statutory contribution from the canton of Zug towards formal childcare. It amounts to 33% of the average nursery fees in Zug and is paid out regardless of income or assets – provided both parents or legal guardians are in employment or education within the canton.
An additional contribution for residents of the City of Zug, graded according to qualifying family income. This municipal subsidy builds directly on the cantonal flat rate and reduces the remaining cost further – to as little as CHF 15 per day of childcare for those on lower incomes.
The 1st of August 2026 marks a historic turning point for families in the canton of Zug. For the first time, the cantonal government is contributing directly towards monthly childcare costs – combined with the city's new childcare vouchers, this creates a level of financial relief unprecedented in Central Switzerland.

Until now, formal childcare in the canton has been one of the biggest drains on a family's annual budget. With the revised ordinance, policymakers are delivering genuine, tangible relief for everyday life. Find out below what this far-reaching change means for you in practice – and how you can benefit with minimum fuss:
If you have been paying the full nursery rate in Zug until now, your out-of-pocket share will drop noticeably from August 2026. The real beauty of the new system is that the cantonal and city contributions are designed to stack, not to replace one another. Even families on higher incomes who do not qualify for the city's vouchers benefit automatically – they receive the income-independent cantonal flat rate, roughly a third of the standard fee, as a direct deduction.
Three structural shifts define the new system. First, the barrier to entry for formal childcare drops significantly – even middle-income families for whom nursery fees have been a serious monthly strain can now plan with greater peace of mind. Second, the application process is going digital: thanks to modern online procedures – the cantonal platform Civo for the flat rate and the city's new online portal – the paperwork can be handled efficiently in one place via ZUGLOGIN and the eZug app. Third, choosing a nursery becomes less of a financial decision and more of a pedagogical one – parents can focus on quality, language development and location rather than the daily rate.
One thing that is important to understand: neither subsidy is paid out automatically. Both must be applied for in good time – by the month before care begins at the latest, since backdated payments are excluded by law. If you want to benefit from August 2026, you should therefore secure a nursery place in Zug soon and set up the digital prerequisites (ZUGLOGIN, eZug app) in advance.

From August 2026, the canton of Zug is for the first time easing the financial burden on all families regardless of income – on top of the city's existing childcare vouchers.
With the revised Childcare Ordinance (KiBeV) of 22 January 2026, the canton of Zug is contributing directly towards the cost of formal childcare for the first time. The flat rate amounts to 33% of average nursery fees in the canton: CHF 47.15 per day for children over 18 months, CHF 52.60 per day for babies under 18 months. These amounts are transferred monthly in advance, straight into the parents' bank account.
Unlike the city's vouchers, the flat rate is independent of both income and assets. Every family resident in the canton of Zug whose parents or legal guardians are in employment or education is eligible – including those working part-time. There is no minimum employment level. The only grounds for exclusion are unemployment without concurrent education, or medical incapacity to work, on the part of both parents.

Für Familien mit einem tiefen massgebenden Einkommen senkt die Stadt die Kosten auf das gesetzliche Minimum von CHF 15 pro Betreuungstag. Mittlere Einkommen werden gestaffelt entlastet, ab einem massgebenden Einkommen von neu unter CHF 170'000 endet der Anspruch auf städtische Gutscheine.
Das massgebende Einkommen setzt sich aus dem steuerbaren Einkommen, Einlagen in die 3. Säule, Pensionskasseneinkäufen sowie 10 % des steuerbaren Vermögens über CHF 100'000 zusammen. Neu lassen sich auch halbe Betreuungstage abrechnen – relevant für Familien mit asymmetrischen Pensen. Kanton und Stadt zusammen dürfen die effektiven Betreuungskosten jedoch nie übersteigen; eine Übersubventionierung ist ausgeschlossen.
Die Grafik zeigt anschaulich, wie sich die beiden Subventionen nicht gegenseitig ersetzen, sondern ideal stapeln. Vom Brutto-Tarif einer Zuger Kita reduziert die neue Kantonspauschale zunächst einen festen Anteil von einem Drittel (33 %) – diesen Entlastungsschritt erreichen alle anspruchsberechtigten Familien gleichermaßen. Erst danach setzt der städtische Betreuungsgutschein an und federt die verbleibenden Kosten einkommensabhängig weiter ab.
Im offiziell publizierten Bestfall – bei Familien mit einem massgebenden Einkommen bis CHF 40'000 – verbleiben am Ende rund 29 % des ursprünglichen Tarifs als Eigenanteil. Mittelstandsfamilien landen typischerweise im Bereich von 40 % bis 55 % Eigenanteil. Wer aufgrund eines höheren Einkommens kein Anrecht auf städtische Gutscheine hat, profitiert dennoch voll vom kantonalen Drittel – das alleine entspricht bei einer Vollzeitbetreuung einer signifikanten monatlichen Ersparnis bei den Kita-Kosten in Zug.
Wie stark die Reform tatsächlich entlastet, hängt am stärksten vom massgebenden Familieneinkommen ab. Die folgenden drei Szenarien zeigen die typische Wirkungsweise. Die Zahlen beziehen sich auf den prozentualen Eigenanteil eines beliebigen Brutto-Tarifs einer anerkannten Zuger Kita.
Bei einem massgebenden Einkommen bis CHF 40'000 greifen Kantonspauschale und maximaler Stadt-Gutschein zusammen. Die effektive Tageskostenlast schrumpft auf das gesetzliche Minimum der Stadt von CHF 15 pro Tag.
Bei einem Einkommen im mittleren Band – typischerweise CHF 80'000 bis 120'000 – läuft die Kantonspauschale voll, der Stadt-Gutschein greift gestaffelt. Die Familie zahlt im Durchschnitt nur noch rund die Hälfte des ursprünglichen Tarifs für die Kinderbetreuung in Zug.
Ab einem massgebenden Einkommen von neu unter CHF 170'000 endet der Anspruch auf städtische Gutscheine. Die Kantonspauschale bleibt jedoch davon unberührt – einkommensunabhängig erhält die Familie einen Drittel der durchschnittlichen Kita-Tarife als direkten Abzug.
Die Kantonspauschale wird nur ausgerichtet, wenn drei Kernvoraussetzungen gleichzeitig erfüllt sind: Wohnsitz im Kanton Zug, ein anspruchsberechtigtes Kind und die Erwerbstätigkeit beider Erziehungsberechtigten. Der zusätzliche Betreuungsgutschein der Stadt Zug berücksichtigt ergänzend Ihr massgebendes Einkommen. Die Stadt Zug sowie die Gemeinden Cham und Risch bündeln die kantonale Pauschale und den städtischen Betreuungsgutschein in einem gemeinsamen digitalen Gesuch über die Plattform Civo. Der Prozess ist vergleichsweise schlank gestaltet.
Die kantonale Online-Plattform Civo setzt ein verifiziertes ZUGLOGIN-Konto und die aktivierte eZug-App auf dem Smartphone voraus. Viele Familien besitzen dieses Konto bereits durch ihre Steuererklärung – dann reicht die Aktivierung der eZug-App. Ohne bestehendes Konto dauert die postalische Identitätsprüfung 7 bis 10 Werktage. Wer dies frühzeitig erledigt, vermeidet Verzögerungen beim offiziellen Start.
Nur Einrichtungen mit einer kantonalen Betriebsbewilligung sind für die neue Systematik zugelassen. Nach dem Vertragsabschluss an unserem Standort am Zuger Stadttor erhalten Sie von Little Star die offizielle Betreuungsbestätigung ausgestellt – dies ist das zwingend erforderliche Kerndokument für Ihr Civo-Gesuch.
Sie laden die Betreuungsbestätigung der Kita, Ihre Erwerbsnachweise und gegebenenfalls die letzte Steuerveranlagung digital auf dem Portal hoch. Wichtig: Reichen Sie das Gesuch spätestens im Monat vor dem gewünschten Betreuungsbeginn ein. Eine rückwirkende Auszahlung für verpasste Monate ist gesetzlich ausgeschlossen. Nach erfolgreicher Prüfung durch die Behörden – in der Regel innerhalb weniger Wochen – fliessen die Kantonspauschale und ein allfälliger städtischer Gutschein monatlich im Voraus direkt auf das Konto der Eltern. Die Bewilligung gilt jeweils für ein volles Schuljahr (August bis Juli); danach wird jährlich ein digitales Neugesuch fällig.

Diese Lage verbindet das städtische Zentrum mit ruhigeren Wohnquartieren in Baar und macht die Kita aus dem ganzen Einzugsgebiet gut erreichbar.
In nur wenigen Minuten erreichbar – aus dem Zentrum von Zug, aus Baar oder über die Autobahnausfahrt 3 Richtung Baar. Unseren Eltern stehen genügend Parkplätze direkt vor Ort zur Verfügung.

The move from crèche to toddler group happens smoothly and individually. Several weeks before the transition, your child regularly visits the new group for short periods, accompanied by a familiar key worker. This way they can get to know the new rooms, carers and children whilst still having the secure haven of their familiar environment. In personal conversations, we prepare both you and your child together for this developmental step.
Language development undergoes a significant surge in toddlerhood. We promote this through daily language rituals such as songs, finger games and picture book activities. Our educators are trained to act as language role models and stimulate natural communication through open questions and active listening. The bilingual environment (German/English) follows the immersion principle and enables playful encounters with both languages.
Settling-in takes place gently according to the Berlin Model and is individually adapted to your child's needs. In the first phase, you accompany your child for a few hours whilst they explore the new environment. We gradually extend the care time and reduce your presence. A key worker stands particularly close to your child during this transition period. Settling-in usually takes 2-3 weeks and is accompanied by regular reflection conversations.
Every child develops individually. Through systematic observation, we recognise early when a child needs particular support in certain areas. In close consultation with you, we adapt our educational offerings and advise you about further support measures when needed. We work with external specialist services and support the integration of early intervention programmes into our daily care routine.
In our studios, toddlers have daily access to various materials such as paints, playdough, natural materials and everyday objects. We value the process of creative expression, not the end result. Children experiment freely and discover their own means of expression. Regular music and movement activities complement the creative offering and promote holistic development.
We're here for you Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:30pm. You can choose between full-day or part-time care and 2 to 5 days per week. Our facility remains open year-round, except for public holidays. In a personal conversation, we'll find the right model for your family.
